I have been asked many times about it, but still no answers have been found yet.

Online websites are booming in Vietnam, but only for entertainment purposes not for the e-businesses yet. Business.com was sold for US$400 million because of the domain name and the business itself. As the same meaning but in Vietnamese, KinhDoanh.com was bought about x,xxx but still a small site (it has been invested huge on the development). The name itself is great, but the e-business is still at different level, a much lower one.

On the other sides, entertainment sites are attracting more visitors. NhacCuaTui.com has the great rank but is it getting good advertising revenue? I don’t think so! Vietnamese does not want to pay for a music site yet. And most of the visitors are teenagers who have no money in the pockets.

Some of the names I like much: Trực Tuyến, Máy Bay, Thuốc Tây, Khởi Nghiệp, Phim Sex…

Yahoo! has just started the cooperation with local IT companies for spreading Yahoo! ads programs.

eBay is now in business with chodientu.vn - a local e-commerce website to settle the new co-op website for Vietnamese.

Google adsense has appeared on some of the major news websites (in Vietnamese langauage)

Last year, Vietnamese people were the top searchers for “Sex” on Google.

Yahoo!: it is still the number one instant messenger in Vietnam. Now it introduces many more services exclusive for the market: Yahoo 360 Plus and Yahoo Music (in partnership with NhacSo.net!) for Vietnamese. It has started doing some commercials which barely appears on the TV. Not only that, Yahoo! Vietnam has the new CEO which is Vietnamese who will have more experience on the market.

MSN!: it has many partnership with other Vietnamese company, especially in education field. Searching, emails, news portals.. are unable to compete with Google and Yahoo in Vietnam for now.

Google: The best search engine in Vietnam. It is also the best trusted company for many IT people in Vietnam. The Vietnamese ads in Google Adsense Networks are appearing more than in the past. Not only the frequency, the cpc is also higher. This is good news for Vietnamese webmasters who mostly focused on affiliate marketing systems or English sites to earn money in the past. Google is also banning many Vietnamese sites because of using Adsense on unappropriated sites.

After using SedoPro for months, my Asian portfolios’ revenue is going up. It is about 30% of traffic is coming from North American, and most of the rest is coming from Vietnam. The average RPC is 0.13 (not too bad for Asian traffic, Parked is paying 0.01 for Vietnamese traffic!)

After the new ranking system launched, most of Vietnamese websites’ rankings were decreased.

The domain parking revenues for Vietnamese domains are not as high as their real values due to geo traffics.

Google Adsense, Yahoo Publishers Network, and other advertising networks are not applicable with Vietnamese language. (No one wants to click on the inaccurate ads, and very few ads appears on the Vietnamese websites)

I think this is time to develop on some domains based on the demands of economy, and also need to find the local marketing network.

IDN Domains are not comfortable with the typing habit of Vietnamese on the web, especially the URL.

Many standard Vietnamese domains with TLD and ccTLD are still available.

Conclusion:

IDN domains for Vietnamese is unnecessary!

Investing on domains is just like buying a real estate! Some facts:

Every year, you have to pay renew fee as same as property tax

You may collect on revenue from parking domains as well as leasing your properties

You may earn profit or loose money from investing domains or properties

Both of domains and properties can be sold, bought, leased, built

If domain transfers, sales are allowed:

- Government will collect more revenue from domain industry: domain registration fees, applicable taxes on domain sales, taxes from new online businesses…

- Online businesses will attract more investments. There will be new types of online businesses which currently run on the developed countries: domain market, domain escrow…

If domain transfer, sales are not allowed: I see no pros signs for it
